Salman Khan's fans may never get over the fact that their favourite star was convicted on Wednesday in the 2002 hit-and-run case, and it's Bollywood's worst nightmare coming true. Though the Mumbai High Court eventually granted him interim bail for two days, the fact is that he's not the first film personality convicted of a crime.
Here's a list of other celebrities, from both Bollywood and Hollywood, who've served time in jail:
Sanjay Dutt was arrested in 2013 under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention Act) TADA, for illegal possession of arms (possessing a 9 mm pistol and an AK 56 assault rifle). He was let out of the jail in January 2014 on a parole of a month on grounds of his wife Manyata's ill health. Dutt is currently serving the remainder of his five-year sentence given by the Supreme Court.
Fardeen Khan was in 2001 after he was arrested for attempting to buy cocaine in Mumbai. In his defense, Fardeen claimed that it was only for private consumption. He came out of the jail on bail after five days and was later granted immunity from prosecution in 2012.
Shiney Ahuja was sent to seven years of rigourous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3000 in 2011 for raping his domestic help in 2009. Though the domestic help retracted her statement, the sessions court convicted Ahuja based on circumstantial evidence.

Monica Bedi was arrested with gangster Abu Salem for entering Portugal on forged documents in 2002. In 2006, an Indian Court convicted Bedi for for procuring a passport on a fictitious name. In November 2010, the Supreme Court of India upheld her conviction but reduced the jail term to the period that she had already served.
John Abraham was sentenced to a of fifteen days in 2012 for rash and negligent driving in 2006. Abraham had crashed his bike and injured two pedestrians in Mumbai's Khar Danda area. He had also reportedly taken the victims, both of whom worked in a shop together, to the Bhabha Hospital.
Robert Downey Jr served one year of a three-year sentence at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in 1999 for missing a required drug test during his three-year probation sentence after he trespassed into a neighbour's home and fell asleep on a bed there while high.
Paul MacCourtney was sent to jail for ten days in 1980 after he was caught with half a pound (22 grams) of marijuana at Tokyo airport.
Mark Wahlberg served 45 days of a two-year sentence after he was charged with attempted murder and assault for attacking a middle-aged Vietnamese man on the street and knocking him unconscious with a large wooden stick.
Paris Hilton served jail term for three days in 2007 for violating probation after failing to enroll in a court-ordered rehab program and being pulled over for speeding and driving without a license.
Lindsay Lohan spent a few days behind the bars in 2007 after pleading guilty to misdemeanour counts of being under the influence of cocaine. She was also sentenced three months' imprisonment for failing to attend alcohol education classes.
Mathew McCannaughey was arrested and released after almost nine hours in 1999 for smoking marijuana while playing bongo drums loudly in his home late-night.
Charlie Sheen was jailed in December 2009, on accusations of assaulting wife.
Jane Fonda: While traveling through the Cleveland airport, Fonda kicked a cop and was falsely accused of smuggling drugs that later turned out to be vitamins. She was arrested for a few hours in 1970.
Mike Tyson was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment after he was convicted of rape in 1992. He was, however, released after serving three years of the sentence.
