Sanjai Mishra: Happy that people don’t know me by my name, but by my characters

Actor Bollywood actor Sanjai Mishra, who was seen in the 2017 drama Kadvi Hawa, says that being recognised by the characters he has played, is the biggest award for him.

Actor Sanjai Mishra has been making the audience laugh with his characters in films such as Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, (2010), Phas Gaye Re Obama (2010), Jolly LLB (2013), and Golmaal Again (2017), for some time now. Having been a part of the mainstream film industry for more than two decades now, the actor is happy that people don’t recognise him by his name.

Actor Sanjai Mishra was recently seen in the film Golmaal Again (2017).

“I am known by the characters I play on the screen, and never by my own name. This, I feel, is the biggest award. People always call me underrated. That’s good for me. Agar overrated hota, toh overdated hota. Hamesha kaam karte raho, dheere-dheere aapka kaam bolega (I would have got outdated if I had been overrated. Keep working, and eventually your work will speak for you),” says the 54-year-old.

Fans might know him best for his comedy roles, but ask if it bothers him, especially with having done power-packed roles in the recent past (Masaan, 2015, Kadvi Hawa, 2017), Mishra says, “I do think about it sometimes. For example, there is singer Anup Jalota, who people know only for his bhajans. Meri doosri audience bhi hai, jo mujhe alag tareeke se dekhti hai (There’s a section of the audience that looks at me in a different way). But I never feel bad that people know me only for my comedy roles — at least they know me!”
