Actor Shamita Shetty, who will soon be seen in a task-based adventure reality show, is currently busy with a cause close to her heart.
As per a source, Shamita has been spending a lot of time at old-age homes, and has associated herself with an NGO. “The cause of elderly people is less spoken about as compared to other causes, and that’s the primary reason why Shamita strongly believes in advocating the same,” says the source.
When contacted, Shamita reveals what drew her towards the cause. “Honestly, it sort of naturally happened after my father passed away [in 2016]. I used to visit old age homes with my parents on my birthday, and distribute clothes or food. I realised this is something I wanted to continue doing. I wanted to make sure they (the elderly people at old-age homes) are given respect,” she says.
The actor adds that the increasing ratio of old age homes in India is an “alarming sign” for us as a society. “These days, we read a lot of reports about how [some] children treated their parents badly, not giving them money or some people just die waiting for their children to come and meet them one last time... I haven’t seen people around me disrespect the old, luckily for them. The one thing I want is the younger generation to speak up when they see something like this happen,” Shamita signs off.
