Sonam’s season-ed role

Sonam Kapoor says she’s playing the “role of a lifetime” in Mausam.

Much has been written about Pankaj Kapur’s directorial debut Mausam, starring his son Shahid Kapoor and actor Sonam Kapoor, but the plot of the film is still strictly under wraps. Though it was reported that in the movie, Shahid and Sonam play characters who age from 20 years to 40 years, Sonam, whose film Aisha released Friday, rubbishes the story.

“That’s half-baked news,” she says. “My character in the movie is not that of a ‘mature woman’, as reported. I very much play a girl of my age, though her character’s unlike anything I have played earlier.” Sonam, who has spent the last two months shooting for Mausam in Scotland, where she has been “cut off from the gossip in India”, says, “I really enjoyed being in my own space in Scotland.

It was a tough shoot and I hardly had time to relax, but it’s the role of a lifetime." Sonam, who describes Mausam as a "classical love story", adds, "I can’t thank Mr Pankaj Kapur for casting me on a whim for this role, though he auditioned many girls. I actually cried the first time I read the script."
