Student of the Year 2 box office day 2: The film has collected Rs 26 crore in two days.

Student of the Year 2, starring Tiger Shroff and debutants Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria, showed slight growth on its second day at theatres. After opening to a collection of Rs 12 crore on Friday, it made another Rs 14 crore on Saturday, taking its two-day collection to Rs 26 crore. However, the film may not show enough growth on Sunday due to the final IPL match in the evening.

Sharing the second day collections of the film, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “#StudentOfTheYear2 witnesses growth on Day 2, but lacks the appreciation for a solid jump... Mumbai, Delhi, NCR plexes performing better... #IPL2019Final today [Sun] will hit biz, evening onwards... Fri 12.06 cr, Sat 14.02 cr. Total: Rs 26.08 cr. India biz. #SOTY2.”

The film was leaked on torrent website, TamilRockers a day after its release, as reported by Indian Express. It has been directed by Punit Malhotra, who previously helmed Kareena Kapoor-starrer Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Imran Khan-Sonam Kapoor starrer, I Hate Luv Storys.

SOTY marks the Bollywood debut of Chunky Panday’s daughter Ananya and Disney VJ Tara. It enjoyed a solo release at the domestic box office but it still faces competition from Hollywood films, Avengers: Endgame and Detective Pikachu. The Marvel film opened to packed theatres in India and has collected Rs 400 crore.

The film is still the fifth highest opening Bollywood film after Kalank, Kesari, Gully Boy and Total Dhamaal which recorded an opening of Rs 21.60 cr, Rs 21.06 cr, Rs 19.40 cr and Rs 16 cr, respectively. It is also Tiger’s second biggest opener after Baaghi 2 which opened at Rs 25 crore.

Apart from a few dance numbers such as The Jawaani Song and Mumbai Dilli Di Kudiyaan, the film also boasts of a special romantic dance number titled The Hook Up Song, performed by Alia Bhatt.
