A few days ago, Sunny Leone took out time from her work commitments to travel to Los Angeles, USA, to attend the 35th anniversary gala of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) USA. However, the self-confessed animal lover has been upset about an act closer home — the move by the Kerala government to cull stray dogs to make the state more “tourist-friendly”. “I think this is ridiculous, especially when we are in 2015, when we, as people, are supposed to be much smarter to be acting like this,” she says.

The adult film star-turned-Bollywood actor feels that much more needs to be done for animals in India. “I have always been fond of animals, but more than that, I feel it is our job, as humans, to protect them, and act responsibly,” says Sunny, adding, “We (she and husband Daniel Weber) always go out of our way to help give a voice to animals.”
Sunny was accompanied to the PETA event in Los Angeles by her husband. It was also attended by international celebrities like music legend Paul McCartney, singer and multi-instrumentalist Beck, besides Anjelic Huston and actor Pamela Anderson.
