Bollywood filmmakers say they are “embarrassed” by the attack on the sets of Kathryn Bigelow’s film in Chandigarh by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists. On Friday, VHP members stopped the shoot demanding that Pakistan’s flags, that were being used as part of the shoot, must be removed.

Bigelow is recreating Pakistan’s Abbottabad in Chandigarh for the film based on slain terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Talking about the issue, filmmaker Pritish Nandy says, “This is ridiculous that a nation known for its creativity, has come to this level.”
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt feels the government and the film industry should take a stand against this kind of behaviour. “If the film is being shot in Chandigarh, it means that they have taken due permission. By attacking them, we are sending signals that we are a banana republic,” he says. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma says, “With such acts, we continuously prove to the West that we still live in ancient times.”
