I will always be a musician,” Neha Bhasin is quick to clarify, when asked about her acting role in Ke Sera Sera Productions’s Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. “Every field requires commitment and I had to be convinced till the last day by the director (Rakesh Mehta) before I took up the role,” she says.

Twenty-eight-year-old Bhasin will play the lead role of a Chandigarh girl who wants to make it big. Her co-stars in this Ram Gopal Varma production include Pradhuman Singh, Osama of Tere Bin Laden (2010) fame, Kaykay Menon and Ranvir Shorey.

Did Shaa’ir + Func singer Monica Dogra influence her to take up acting? “My role is more glamorous than hers,” laughs Bhasin, “But what’s important is that she fit her role in Dhobi Ghat (2011) and so do I in this film.”

Acting was initially difficult for the singer and songwriter, who just finished the second schedule of shooting. “Filming music videos is far less make-believe and more natural because you’re singing and dancing to your own song. I felt weird talking into thin air when I first started shooting. But the serious and passionate actors I’m working with got me kicked,” Bhasin says.

Bhasin will also release her second music video on April 1 for her single Tabaah… “My previous video for Apple Bottoms received 1,80,000 hits last year on Youtube. I’m hoping for similar success with Tabaah… that will be launched on ArtistAloud.com and Hungama on April 6,” she says.
