Aditya Chopra’s production company Yash Raj Films has announced a Rs 10 lakh cash reward for paralympian Mariyappan Thangavelu. The 21-year-old made history by winning a gold medal in the Men’s T-42 High Jump event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympics.

A source says, “The Rs10 lakh cash reward is a gesture to salute the indomitable spirit of Indian sportspersons. The company plans to present similar cash rewards to all the other Indian gold medal winners at the event.”

Incidentally, the production house is also known to back sports-based films. “They have made movies such as Chak De! India (2007) and Sultan. Now, once again, they are supporting sports in India. They are trying to empower the less-privileged within this field,” adds the source.
