A new James Bond novel is in the offing.
English novelist Anthony Horowitz has written a prequel to Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel Casino Royale (1953).
Forever and a Day by Horowitz, which will be published on 31 May, draws from original material left behind by Ian Fleming and has been authorised by the Fleming Estate.
“I couldn’t have been happier when the Ian Fleming estate invited me back to write a second Bond,” The Guardian quoted Horowitz as saying in a report. “I hope Ian Fleming would have approved.”
In the novel, James Bond steps into the shoes of the previous agent with the designation 007, who has been “killed by an unknown hand”, says the publisher Jonathan Cape.
According to a report in The Bookseller, Michal Shavit, publishing director at Jonathan Cape, said Horowitz had written “the ultimate Bond novel”. “It’s a book that will not only appeal to Bond fans but it will introduce Bond to a whole new generation of readers with the extraordinary story of how he got his licence to kill,” she is quoted as saying.
Horowitz was earlier chosen by the Fleming Estate to write the 2015 best-seller featuring James Bond titled Trigger Mortis, set two weeks after the events of Gold Finger (1959).
