So, playing guardian angel is the DSC South Asian Prize for Literature that was announced at the Jaipur Literature Festival last month. What’s the deal? It has to be an original work of fiction published between April 1, 2009, and March 31, 2010. All languages are allowed so long as they are translated into English. Go and nag your publishers now!

To catch former Andhra Pradesh Governor, Congressman and cult adult movie actor N.D. Tiwari at a book launch is as strange as finding Kapil Dev holding a book. So when Tiwari was found sitting quietly at the launch of sports journalist Tina Sharma Tiwari’s novel, Running On Full, at the World Book Fair in Delhi on Thursday, I wasn’t surprised to find media attention focused on Kapil Dev — the other guest at the launch. But as is known in seedy CD circles and among the literate, I don’t come out of a book event without a hot piece of news. So here it is: Tiwari is finishing his autobiography that Rupa will be publishing later this year or next. I’ll be looking forward to the chapter that could start with, “The hot water in the guest house was hot. I took off my socks and...” Watch this space for further updates.
