Surrounded by ex-husband Shekhar Kapur, daughter Kaveri and close friends, Krishnamoorthy read excerpts from the book, which starts with a 10-year-old girl, Chitrangana, hitting the mean streets of Mumbai in search of her father. It’s a story of friends, family and finding true love.

Forever young
“I wanted to do something light and crazy. I’ve written plays and acted in films. I understand scripts and wanted to translate that understanding into a novel,” explained the new author.

Krishnamoorthy wouldn’t reveal details about the other three stories in the series but admitted that they would be related to the protagonist, Chitrangana, and her housing complex in downtown Mumbai. “And like Suchitra, Chitrangana will always remain young,” she laughed.

When quizzed on the title, The Summer of Cool, she said, “There is so much happening that it makes the hot summer cool.” Krishnamoorthy thanked her ex-husband, and playwright, Mahesh Dattani, for being her inspiration and support.

Socialites Dolly Thakore and Queenie Singh, actress Madhoo, director Sanjay Gupta, designer Nisha Jhamwal and singer Rageshwari clapped and cheered for their friend who has already started work on book two which should release soon.
