They said we’d forget; change our display pictures to holidaying in Goa and move on. But did we?
From protesting at India Gate to apologising for abuses directed towards women, from trying to be invisible while walking on the road to looking into the eyes of every man, ready to talk back if he has a lewd comment to utter, we didn’t forget. When I wrote my cover story (We Just Had To Make Ourselves Heard, January 6), I was asked not to be too emotional, advised by well-meaning friends that nothing would change. But it did.
When guys joked about not cat-calling women lest they get beaten, things changed. When people resolved to not use abuses directed at women, things changed. And then I knew it was okay to get emotional; it makes things happen.
