They exemplify new-age music in not just what they play, but also in the name of their group and they way they met. Musician Janaka Atugoda, 41, hailing from Sri Lanka and now based in San Francisco, US, met Mumbai-based vocalist Sridevi Keshavan, 28, on Myspace in 2009. That was also they year Sridevi had quit her job as a journalist to turn a singer. And that’s how Gods Robots — their music group — was formed.

In city to perform at Blue Blazer, Sector 26, on Friday, the duo shared their story. “Janaka came across my songs on Myspace and got in touch with me through Facebook. We started sharing our interests in music and just connected with each other,” says Sridevi about meeting IT professional-turned-musician Janaka.

Though they released their first music album — a 13-track compilation called Gods Robots — in June this year, the two are already known amongst music lovers and have performed at the Mumbai Lit Fest in December 2012, Sunburn music fest in December 2012, Jaipur Lit Fest 2012 and Blue Frog.

With Sridevi’s vocals in English lyrics as well as classical Indian vocals infused with Indian instruments and elements of dubstep, hip hop and technology put in by Janaka, Gods Robots are definitely a duo to watch out for.
