Daughter of renowned actor Dina Pathak, sister of veteran actor Nasseruddin Shah’s wife Ratna Pathak, wife of the amazing actor Pankaj Kapur and mother of Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor — Mrs Kapur has lived a life surrounded by artistes.
But, what we truly remember her for is, “Khaana kha ke jana, haan!” TV serial Khichdi’s Hansa, Supriya Pathak, is currently shooting in Patiala for Danis Tanovic’s tentatively titled White Lies. HT City catches up with the actor.
About the movie she’s currently working on, she’s not ‘allowed’ to disclose much. “You know how it is. The contract doesn’t allow you to discuss the film,” says she.
But, she doesn’t mind sharing the experience, “Working with Tanovic is lovely. He’s an amazing director, yet a very relaxed guy. Though he kids around with everyone on sets, he’s a thorough perfectionist.”
And how is working with Emraan Hashmi? “I have always admired his work, and I like the fact that he has made a niche for himself; even though I didn’t work with him during Shanghai.”
On the same note, she adds, “I have always liked Dibakar’s (Banerjee) different style of working. So, when he approached me, I obviously wanted to be a part of the film.”
And acting, obviously, remains her true love. “Though I might have some reservations about the roles I play, I love acting. Thankfully, it has been a great journey so far, playing the roles that I did. Had I not played them, I would have been just Supriya Pathak all my life.”
Was being the daughter of an iconic actor like Dina Pathak a task? “We both are very different actors. So, I was never really in her shadow. But, I’m happy that the audience liked my work and that I was able to live up to their expectations. My mother also would have been very happy to see who I am today. I had made my mark in the industry with films such as Kalyug and Bazaar,” says she.

About her much-loved husband, Pankaj Kapoor, she says, “He is a great and rare human being. We share a great friendship, and obviously love. We make sure we make time for our relationship. We have grown up together, with our children and priorities.
Thus, we have a lot in common. We’ve known each other for 27 years, 25 out of which, we have been married.”
Pathak’s children too are planning to join the artistes’ tree, shares she. “My eldest son, Shahid, is already an actor; daughter Sanah is hopefully going to join the league soon. She recently returned from New York after an acting course. And the youngest son, who recently finished a gourmand course from New York, is also going to enroll in an acting course soon.”
