What’s the first thought that comes to mind on hearing ‘gusto’? While for some the answer might be ‘that big ghost of a chef from Ratatouille’, a majority of you, we like to believe, would associate the word with everything grand — be it the zest, taste or just a plain old character trait. The Italian lineage, henceforth, is only inevitable.
With the same ‘gusto’, master chef Bill Marchetti (in pic) brings forth the two-month long Gusto D’Italia food fest at Spaghetti Kitchen, Sector 22, Chandigarh.
The fest brings forth a selection of 30 choicest delicacies from the regular menu of the restaurant. They like to call it a buffet; only, it’s served at your table.
Since you’d be spoilt for choice with a variety of starters, pizzas, pastas and desserts, HT City takes the onus of making it easier for you.
If soup is your preferred way to start a meal, go in for the Ligurian Minestrone — it’s savory, tangy, full of veggies and suits the Punjabi palate perfectly.
If you’ve been in Chandigarh long enough, you’d know that finding decent polenta in the city is no mean feat. Spaghetti Kitchen, however, is about to change that. Their Baked Cheese Polenta sits pretty in all its puffy beauty, creating the perfect contrast — of flavours and colours — with the Tomato Salsa. Another offbeat item, though of Mediterranean roots, is the Mixed Grain Tabouleh — though typically an Arabian starter, the salad has seen conversion at the Italian front as well.

We, however, for reasons unknown, decided to go with the Spinach Ravioli with a Ricotta Filling in Sage Butter Sauce and the Penne Vodka, of course. The ravioli is one dish you’d need to be seated for. Its beauty lies in its simple playfulness — as the perfectly cooked ravioli delicately shelters the ricotta-spinach filling and the spinach rebelliously emerges from within, the sage butter lights firecrackers in celebration.
