Mentor, sculptor Gagan Vij, with nine young artists, paid tribute to 76-year-old legendary painter Ganesh Pyne, who passed away recently on March 12, 2013. Pyne’s work, which was influenced by Bengal School of Art and its founder Rabindranath Tagore, were discussed at the gallery. His unique style of ‘poetic surrealism’ that revolved around themes from Bengali folklore and mythology were also discussed.

Fulari, who specialises in figurative bronze, says he would create something unique by collaborating each artist’s individual work, done in his or her respective mediums.

Explaining the idea behind the workshop further, he adds, “I have tried to bring all strings
of fine art together. For example, if Chetna works in new media, Rajesh Ram does installations and Manjot Kaur is into painting, all nine of them would focus individually on their respective mediums.

The mentor for these youngsters, sculptor Gagan Vij from New Delhi, who recently created Sun Dial (42X78 ft), says, “Logical reasoning behind every creation is a mandate. As a mentor, I will teach them to serve each other first and then the society. And, anyone is welcome to contribute, art background or not.”

On till March 25
