After teaming up for the critically acclaimed, award-winning film The Dirty Picture, in 2011, actors Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi will play husband and wife in Ghanchakkar that releases on June 28. Touted to be a comedy thriller, Ghanchakkar has been directed by Rajkumar Gupta and produced by Ronnie Srewvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur from UTV Motion Pictures.
In city on Tuesday for their upcoming film’s promotion, the duo talked about their on-screen chemistry and living up to people’s expectations. Vidya, who came dressed garishly in her character’s avatar, said, “My look in each of my films is different.
I come dressed like my character so that people can connect easily with the look.” Ecstatic about working with Emraan once again, the actor added, “Acting is about reacting, which makes it very important to work with a good co-actor. Also, working on different scripts with the same actor gives one the chance to explore the co-star.” Meanwhile, Emraan said with a smile on his face, “Vidya is a fantastic and spontaneous actor. I am glad to be doing another film with her.”

“I play a middle class housewife named Neetu who is a very loud but lively character. To play Neetu, I had to gain weight, so I ate a lot of paranthas and rajhma chawal, which are my favourite food items in the Punjabi cuisine.”
The three Punjabi words she learnt for her role “Sat Sri Akal, Ki Haal Hai Tuhada? and Hain? which I utter in the entire film,” she laughs.
On being called the ‘female hero’ of the Hindi film industry
“I really don’t know what this means.
I think I have been quite fortunate to get good scripts. From amongst the films that I have done so far, I genuinely believe that No One Killed Jessica paved the way for me in the film industry. I feel lucky to be the face of change in films, but I have a lot of people to thank for getting me there.”

“First of all, I don’t consider myself to be a star in the industry. I am only a professional who does my job with 100% dedication. When I am done with my work, I disconnect completely from the sets and when I enter the sphere of my personal life, I keep it away from the sets. This helps me balance my home and work.”
Where does Bollywood lack, after completing 100 years of cinema?
“In Bollywood, most actors have a bad habit of following trends and indulging in run-of-the-mill roles. I think, to be a good actor and get quality work in cinema, one needs to have the guts to break a trend. As an actor, I love experimenting with roles and working for unique scripts.”
Perfectionism or spontaneity
“I am far from being a perfectionist. In fact, I perform with rough edges to my work. I just learn the script by heart and try to achieve what the director wants from me in a maximum of two takes. I am not an actor who requires 30 takes.”
