Following in his younger brother’s footsteps, singer Hans Raj Hans’ elder son, Navraj Hans would now be seen romancing in Punjabi in his upcoming Pollywood flick, Dil Lai Gayi Kudi Punjab Di.
In Chandigarh at Buzz Lounge & Bar, Sector 17, on Thursday, Navraj chooses to talk about his musical journey and his father being his biggest inspiration. “When I was in the UK for higher studies, I got really homesick. I called my father, expressing my longing to return home, as I had no friends to rely on back there.
The next thing I knew, dad came to England, took me to a music store and bought me 140 volumes of legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s music, saying, ‘Here’s your friend.’ I fell so deeply in love with his voice that I started bunking classes to listen to him,” recalls Navraj.
About his initiation into music, he says, “It was in 2007, when I was finally allowed to sit with my father during a live performance. For many, many years, I was just asked to rehearse; till date, my father rehearses for three hours a day. I can never forget the poetry he had sung for his song, Ishq Di Gali Vicho (in the film Kachche Dhaage); I haven’t been able to sing at the same pitch.”
Engaged to Daler Mehndi’s daughter, Ajit Kaur, Navraj says he’s a big fan of his would-be father-in-law. “Not withstanding our relationship, I love his bold vocals. I am blessed to have two fathers with a great sense of music. As for Ajit, she is my lucky charm; ever since she came around, my plate has been full, gladly.”
Having sung for films such as Burrrahh and Saadi Love Story, about his upcoming singing projects, Navraj says, “Besides singing for Dil Lai Gayi Kudi Punjab Di, I’m also giving my voice for Dil Sada Lutya Gaya. My singing debut in Hindi cinema would be with Band of Maharajas, while Marriage Da Garrage is the next Punjabi film you’d see me acting in.”

{{/usCountry}}Navraj recently launched his single, Saiyaan, after a long wait of nine years, says he. “I wasn’t allowed to launch it. My father wasn’t convinced. Now that he is, I would be releasing my solo album and four more singles soon.”
