Following in her predecessors’ footsteps, the new chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Poonam Kishore Saxena, assu-red taxpayers that income tax (I-T) refunds would be made in three months.

However, given deadlines were missed by the I-T department in the past, the CBDT has launched a ‘demand management fortnight’.
The board said that a nodal officer at the single window grie-vance cell will handle grievance petitions for demand adjustment on incorrect arrear demand communicated by the central processing centre (CPC) Bangalore.
“There is only a single CPC, which is over-burdened. The board should immediately addr-ess this issue if it genuinely wants to help taxpayers,” said president, I-T Employees Association (Delhi) Ashok K Kanojia.
