The first phase of the pipeline that runs between Cairn's Rajasthan's oil fields in Barmer and Gujarat's Salaya is now operational to send oil to private refineries, Cairn said in a statement.

The Mangala oilfield, discovered in January 2004, is the largest onshore oil discovery in India in more than 20 years.

The company said it has completed the 590-km pipeline from the Thar desserts of Rajasthan to Salaya in Gujarat that has enabled the sale of oil to Essar's Vadinar refinery in the state.
