Can’t exempt sectors from CCI: Chawla

New chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) Ashok Chawla has said he is against exemptions to more sectors from provisions of the competition law.

New chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) Ashok Chawla has said he is against exemptions to more sectors from provisions of the competition law.

“The fundamental premise of competition law is that any commercial activity has to be in the purview of competition law,” he said, adding exemption should only be given to sensitive sectors such as defence, atomic energy and currencies.

“Even state functions, when commercial (oil companies and parts of the railways) those cannot be exempted,” he felt.
