Additional Sessions Judge OP Saini sent them to jail till December 23 after they were producced before him on the expiry of their judicial remand.

Company secretary Manoj Kumar Banthia was arrested by CBI on November 23 along with Vasudevan for allegedly giving a bribe of 7 lakh to pass a favourable order in a matter relating to the daily.

The court had recently dismissed the bail plea of the accused duo on the ground that the probe into the matter was at a nascent stage and moreover, corruption cases, involving government servants, were on the rise.

Opposing the bail applications, CBI had said it had found Vasudevan had amassed Rs 2.27 crore in the form of cash and bank deposits.

The court, detailing the sequence of events, said Banthia, who allegedly paid Rs 7 lakh bribe to Vasudevan, had demanded Rs 10 lakh from an advocate Ankur Chawla who was also named in the FIR.
