HDFC Bank Q4 net up nearly 37%

HDFC Bank, the country's second largest private sector bank, reported a net profit of Rs 630.88 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2009. The bank had a net profit of Rs 471.11 crore a year earlier.

HDFC Bank, the country's second largest private sector bank, on Thursday reported a net profit of Rs 630.88 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2009. The bank had a net profit of Rs 471.11 crore a year earlier.

The results of the bank are not comparable to a year earlier as the bank had absorbed Centurion Bank of Punjab last year.

The total income of the bank was Rs 5,385.52 crore in the fourth quarter of 2008-09. Its total income in the fourth quarter of previous year was Rs 3,505.52 crore.

The board of the bank has recommended a Rs 10 per share or 100 per cent dividend for 2008-09.

For the financial year 2008-09, HDFC Bank reported a net profit of Rs 2,244.95 crore. It had a net profit of Rs 1,590.18 crore in 2007-08. The bank's gross NPAs were 1.98 per cent of total assets.
