Indian equities markets were closed on Thursday on account of constitution maker Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary, celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed on Wednesday with a gain of 434.32 points or 2.25 % at 19,696.86 points.

Broader markets too had closed in the green, with the BSE midcap index moving up 1.4 % and the BSE small cap index ending 1.3 % higher.
At the National Stock Exchange, the 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty closed 2.17 % or 125.80 points higher at 5,911.50.
