NTPC Executives’ Federation of India (NEFI) threatened to join the oil officers’ strike from Thursday, irked at the arrest of a senior functionary of the Oil Sector Officers Association (OSOA).
Delhi Police arrested Narender Goyal and another employee on Wednesday under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). Many have been suspended across the country. “We are evaluating the action… of the government and if such atrocities do not stop, we would go on strike,” NEFI president Rakesh Pandey said.
The first day of the strike by the oil PSU executives led to the shutdown of key oil and gas installations.
Gas supplies by ONGC were restricted to one-third of its daily gas production of 50 million metric standard cubic metres per day. Crude oil production also suffered a loss of 80,000 barrels of oil per day. This resulted in a
Rs 25 crore loss to ONGC. Indian Oil had to shut down four of its 10 refineries at Mathura, Panipat, Haldia and Gujarat and ONGC was forced to close majority of its gas fields at South Basse in and western offshore.
