“The 3D boom is expected to go beyond cinema as the movies would be available across platforms. Quite obviously we are excited and bullish on the 3D entertainment market,” said Anil Arjun, CEO, Reliance MediaWorks.

Reliance MediaWorks sees a growth opportunity coming from the growing global demand for 3D films. The strategic alliance will help the producers convert both new films shot in 2D as well as old titles to be released in cinemas and on home platforms in stereoscopic 3D. The partnership is expected to be able to cater to 15-25 feature films projects per year.

Work on the first joint title will commence by the beginning of 2010. The company plans to hire 600 people by April 2010.

Here in India 3D screens have doubled in the last four months and is expected to touch 100 screens by early next year. The boom in 3D is expected to grow beyond cinemas. Movies are available across platforms like 3D Blu-Ray standard, DVDs, and the soon to be released Sky Television’s 3D satellite television channel in the UK.
