Rajan Mittal takes over as FICCI chief

Rajan Bharti Mittal, the Vice- Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Enterprises, a diversified group dominant in telecom, insurance and retail, today took over as the President of industry chamber FICCI.

Mittal, 50, succeeds Harsh Pati Singhania, the Managing Director of JK Paper.

An alumnus of Harvard Business School, Mittal oversees Bharti Enterprises at the corporate level. He is also involved in group's new business ventures like retail. His elder brother and group Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal was at the helm of the rival chamber CII in 2007-08.

Mittal takes over charge of the apex business chamber at a time when the industry has just about come out of a severe slowdown that afflicted it following the global meltdown. The Indian economy is set to grow by 7.5-8 per cent in the current fiscal, while growth is expected to be 8.5 per cent in 2010-11.
