The Reserve Bank has transferred around 90 senior officials, mainly in the rank of chief general managers and general managers.
Around 34 CGMs and 60 general managers have been either transferred or reallocated new work portfolios, while some deputy general managers have been promoted to the rank of general managers.
A Reserve Bank spokesperson confirmed the transfers, describing them as a “routine exercise”.
Most of the officials who have been transferred out of Mumbai are understood to have spent 10 years or more in the city.
“Every year, transfers take place around this time. This year too, we have transferred officers. This is not the first time we are effecting transfers and hence, there is nothing new in this," the RBI spokesperson said.
“We start our transfers from the senior management level and then come down to the junior management officials,” the spokesperson said.
The apex bank employs around 20,000 employees around India.
Amongst those transferred is senior chief general manager, S Karuppasamy.
Karuppasamy, who was working with the Department of Banking Supervision in Mumbai has been transferred to Kolkata as regional director.
Two other senior officials, F R Joseph and B Srinivas, in Kolkata and Bangalore, have been transferred to Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai, respectively.
Asked if the transfers would be with immediate effect or the officials would be given some time for shifting, the spokesperson said, “We always give time to our officials to move. Our HR policy is very humane.”
