Dealers said demand for dollar from importers weighed on the Indian rupee.

The dollar's gains against other Asian currencies and fears of capital outflows from domestic stock markets also impacted negatively the sentiment, they added.

The rupee had ended 5 paise higher at 46.80/81 against the dollar on Tuesday.
