The rupee resumed sharply higher against the US currency at Rs 42.49/53 in the interbank foreign exchange market on Friday on lack of demand for the greenback.

The rupee opened higher by 29 paise at Rs 42.49/53 as against Thursday's closing level of Rs 42.78/79.

However, the rupee is currently quoted at Rs 42.58/60 due to mild demand for US dollar from oil companies in view of high crude oil prices in the global market.
