In a volatile movement, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark Sensex on Tuesday closed higher by over 39 points on account of recovery in select heavy-weight stocks as funds resumed buying.

The Sensex, which had lost 74.98 points the previous day, recovered by 39.24 points, or 0.27 per cent to close at 14,535.01 after touching the session's high of 14,571.31 and a low of 14,432.67.
In likewise manner, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's index Nifty closed with a gain of 17.60 points at 4,284.65. It moved between 4,292.50 and 4,268.90 points during the session on alternate bouts of buying and selling.
Stocks of banking, capital goods and IT sectors were major gainers, and extended support to the Sensex to close in positive zone.
