The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 96 points in early trade on Friday, after opening on a promising note, on emergence of profit booking by funds.

The 30-share index, which opened 50 points higher, lost 95.83 points to 20,008.56 in the first ten minutes of trade.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty commenced the day on a good note but fell by 40.55 points to 6,017.55 points.
A weak trend in global stock markets dampened the trading sentiment to some extent, market men said.
