The benchmark Sensex closed higher by 57.80 points at 19,795.87 on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Thursday on buying in index-related stocks.

The Sensex which witnessed an intra-day high of 20,064.31 later pared its gains on profit-selling by major market players. The key-index touched the day's low of 18,716.56.

The selling pressure was largely confined to sectors such as consumer durables, metal, oil and gas, PSU and capital goods.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 14.70 points to 5,954.70, after touching the day's high of 6,027.05 and a low of 5,919.80 points.
