Wind power generation company Suzlon Energy Ltd, through its subsidiary REpower Systems AG, has inked a deal to deliver 48 offshore wind turbines to RWE Innogy of Germany, that could generate 295 megawatts of power.
RWE would procure turbines for Germany’s Nordsee Ost offshore wind power farm and installations are scheduled for between 2011 and 2013.
While the official at Suzlon refused to disclose the deal size, according to market estimates, it could be worth around Rs 2,065 crore.
Tulsi Tanti, chairman and managing director of Suzlon Energy Ltd, said, “This order by RWE is the first step in large-scale commercial offshore wind farms. REpower with its expertise in building offshore wind farms in extremely challenging conditions is the ideal strategic partner for RWE Innogy in their drive into offshore.”
As per the agreement, REpower is to supply nacelles and hubs, rotor blades and towers for the project.
The company will also be responsible for the start-up and servicing of the wind farm that will be situated about 35 km into the sea.
