Renovating Mumbai’s seafront Taj hotel may be an arduous task, but the Tatas have insured it well to pick up the tab, the company that owns the Taj Group said on Wednesday.

“Our company has in place adequate insurance cover. We are working with reputed agencies to sanitize and reopen the hotel,” the Indian Hotel Company Ltd told the Bombay Stock Exchange one week after the beginning of the terrorist attack that crippled operations in the Victorian-style heritage building with a tower attached. The tower is wing is expected to be re-opened shortly as it has not suffered significant damage.

Three insurance companies, Tata AIG General Insurance and ICICI Lombard General Insurance and IFFCO Tokio General Insurance are evaluating the damage caused by the attack.

The century-old hotel suffered extensive damage in the shootouts and arson that marked fighting between holed-up terrorists and commandos that went into last weekend.

So far the number of deaths of guests and visitors at the luxury hotel is not known as the investigating authorities are still continuing with their probe.
