TCS, Cognizant get Centre's nod for SEZs

The go-ahead was given at a meeting, which has given formal approval to 15 proposals and in-principle approval to five.

The government on Thursday gave formal approval to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Cognizant Technologies and 18 others to set up special economic zones across the country.

The go-ahead was given at a meeting of the Board of Approvals (BOA) of the commerce ministry on SEZs, presided over by Commerce Secretary GK Pillai, which gave formal approval to 15 proposals and in-principle approval to five.

TCS and Cognizant both would be setting up their SEZs in Andhra Pradesh, in 30.35 hectares and 16.19 hectares respectively.

Besides decisions taken at the meeting, the government has so far granted approvals for setting up 362 SEZs, of which 136 have been notified, attracting Rs 453.77 billion in investments and providing jobs to over 38,405 people.
