Tehri Hydro Development to study Bunakha project in Bhutan

State-run power generator Tehri Hydro Development Corp Thursday said it has inked an agreement with the Bhutan government for carrying out due diligence on the 180-MW Bunakha hydroelectric project in the neighbouring country.

State-run power generator Tehri Hydro Development Corp Thursday said it has inked an agreement with the Bhutan government for carrying out due diligence on the 180-MW Bunakha hydroelectric project in the neighbouring country.

"THDC India Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Energy, Bhutan, for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of 180-MW Bunakha hydroelectric project in Bhutan," an official statement said.

The Bunakha project is a part of the Indian government's initiative to develop 10,000 MW of hydro power in Bhutan by the year 2020. The MoU was signed by THDC Chairman and Managing Director R S T Sai and Bhutan Department of Energy Director-General Yeshi Wangdi and other government officials from both countries.
