More than 1.39 lakh metric tons (MT) wheat has been purchased by various procurement agencies in the 24 grain markets of Rupnagar district during the season so far, said Rupnagar deputy commissioner Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal here on Monday.

He added, "Pungrain had purchased 26429 MT, Markfed: 30376 MT, Punsup: 25644 MT, Punjab Warehouse Corporation: 5982 MT, Punjab Agro: 14132 MT, Food Corporation Limited: 23804 MT, and traders had purchased 1465 MT wheat in the district so far."
A payment of `183.54 crore had been made to the farmers for the wheat purchased by the procurement agencies.
