100 get degrees at central varsity first convocation

Over 100 candidates were conferred degrees at the first convocation of the Central University at Jant Palli village in Mahendergarh district on Saturday.

Over 100 candidates were conferred degrees at the first convocation of the Central University at Jant Palli village in Mahendergarh district on Saturday.

President Pranab Mukherjee who was scheduled to be chief guest at the convocation, however, could not reach because of adverse weather conditions.

An official spokesman said the new campus of central university was formally inaugurated by Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia.

Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who was also present at the convocation, presented PhD degrees to researchers of the university.

Delivering his convocation address, Pahadia said that since its inception in 2009, the University has expanded its academic programmes in a phased manner. It has aquired a respectable place among the major academic institutions of the state. He also appreciated innovative academic and social outreach initiatives launched by the university.

Chief minister Hooda said there were 36 universities in the state including 14 private universities. Rajiv Gandhi Education City being established by the state government will have world-class institutions including the National Law University, a state funded institution.
