14th Police Martyrs Memorial football from Jun 30

As many as 56 teams, including ten from outside the state, will participate in the 14th edition of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament to be played from June 30 in Srinagar.

As many as 56 teams, including ten from outside the state, will participate in the 14th edition of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament to be played from June 30 here.

"We have a record number of 56 teams participating in the tournament," director general of Jammu and Kashmir police K Rajendra told reporters.

He said Border Security Force (BSF), Uttrakand, Panjab University, Maharashtra, Railway Coach Factory Kapurthala, West Bengal, Punjab Police, Bihar police, Hoshiarpur and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are among the prominent teams from outside the state taking part in the tournament
this year.

J&K Bank, J&K Forest, J&K Police, Food and Supplies are the leading teams from the state taking part in the tournament.

The DGP said the 17-day-long tournament will be played on knock- out basis at two different venues of the valley- Pologround and Bakshi stadium.

The tournament was started in 1998 in the memory of inspector Musthaq Ahmad Baba, who was killed in a car blast at Regal Chowk in the city.

The tournament is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir police under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association.
