1984 riots: HC asks inquiry panel to look into Gurgaon, Pataudi cases also

Expanding the scope of the one-man commission headed by justice TP Garg (retd) probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots at Hondh Chillar village in Haryana, Punjab and Haryana high court ordered it to investigate such cases in Gurgaon and Pataudi as well.

Expanding the scope of the one-man commission headed by justice TP Garg (retd) probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots at Hondh Chillar in Haryana, Punjab and Haryana high court ordered it to investigate such cases in Gurgaon and Pataudi as well.

A division bench of acting chief justice MM Kumar and justice Alok Singh issued the directions while disposing of a public interest litigation filed by Manwinder Singh of Giaspura village, Ludhiana.

As per the petitioner's information submitted before the court, 47 people were killed in Gurgaon and two teenaged girls along with 17 other persons were killed in Pataudi on November 2, 1984.

The Haryana government had constituted the commission headed by justice Garg, a retired judge of Allahabad high court, on March 5 last year to inquire into the killings of 32 Sikhs in village Hondh Chillar of Rewari district.

Haryana's counsel informed the court that earlier also justice GT Nanavati commission looking into the 1984 riot incidents had considered the claims of a few persons hailing from Gurgaon and Pataudi.
