A 22-year-old boy was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his room at Phase 7, SAS Nagar, on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Amit Sharma, a native of Mansa in Punjab.
The incident was reported when domestic helper witnessed the body lying in the room and raised an alarm. However, the victim has been staying at a paying guest in SAS Nagar since one year. After informing the police, house owners rushed him to the civil hospital at Phase 6 where doctors declared him dead.
A team of police inspected the room where the body was found, but no suicide note has been recovered. Station house officer (SHO) of the Mataur police station Mahesh Saini said it was suspected initially that the victim has committed suicide, but his family members revealed that he was suffering from some disease due to which he often suffered attacks.
Rishikesh Sharma, Amit's father, said his son came to SAS Nagar in search of a job a year back. During the preliminary investigation, the police learnt that the victim was staying with his friend Naman Singla, who hails from Mansa. He told the police that in the morning when he left the room for his class, Amit was sleeping and nothing suspicious had taken place.
The SHO said the police have initiated the proceeding under Section 174 of the CrPC and the body has been sent for postmortem examination. He added that the postmortem report will reveal the exact cause of death.
