Though Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh is for the past three years allocating more than Rs 2 crore for its development, nothing has changed on ground since MC maintains that the issue is under UT administration purview.

Area councillor Jannat Jahan Ul Haq, who raised the issue in a MC meeting on February 29, rued, "It is very unfortunate that residents are deprived of even basic amenities, which is their basic right, for the past 40 years. Since MC had maintained that Deep Complex was not under its jurisdiction, no developmental work had been undertaken in the village. But, why are they allocating budget for the same every year for sewerage and storm-water works there."

It was learnt that the area residents had to depend on 15 water tankers sent by MC to meet their daily needs.

BS Rawat, a former general secretary of Deep Complex Welfare Association, said, "In these modern times, we are deprived of even drinking water. We have even written to UT Administrator Shivraj Patil, but nothing has been done so far."
