The Punjab government has identified about 5,000 illegal/unauthorised colonies across the state for potential regularisation. If the coloniser concerned does not apply for regularisation by August 25, legal proceedings would be initiated against them.
The decision is part of the state's fresh policy on regularising such unapproved colonies. The policy was unveiled at the Punjab cabinet meeting held recently, a spokesman said here.
"The policy would be a big relief to about 5,000 colonies and 2 lakh individual plot holders/building owners across the state," the spokesman said.
The policy would be applicable for one year (April 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014) in the entire state. Only unapproved colonies or buildings constructed before April 1, 2013, would be considered, he added.
The spokesman said 25% of the composition fee and regularisation charges were required to be deposited with the application and the remaining in three equal six monthly instalments. 10% discount would be given to those applicants who deposit the fee and charges lump sum.
For these colonies, if the individual plot/building owners do not apply under this scheme, the registration of their plots would be cancelled and power, water supply and sewerage connections would be disconnected.
