The decision is part of the state's fresh policy on regularising such unapproved colonies. The policy was unveiled at the Punjab cabinet meeting held recently, a spokesman said here.
"The policy would be a big relief to about 5,000 colonies and 2 lakh individual plot holders/building owners across the state," the spokesman said.

The policy would be applicable for one year (April 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014) in the entire state. Only unapproved colonies or buildings constructed before April 1, 2013, would be considered, he added.

The spokesman said 25% of the composition fee and regularisation charges were required to be deposited with the application and the remaining in three equal six monthly instalments. 10% discount would be given to those applicants who deposit the fee and charges lump sum.

The detailed policy has been uploaded on the official website of Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA), www.puda.gov.in. Further information can be sought from Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) and development authorities of Patiala, Bathinda, Amritsar and Jalandhar.
