5 months on, no electricity bills delivered in 30 villages

Residents of nearly 30 villages under the Sohana village subdivision of Punjab State Power Cor poration Limited (PSPCL) are a harried lot, for they have been told to pay a fine on the electricity bills which they have not yet received.

The villagers have not received bills since December 2013. On enquiring from the office concerned, they were told to pay the bill with an additional 9% as fine. This means a consumer who is pay a bill of ` 1,000, will have to pay ` 90 extra as fine.

A resident of Landran village here, Jaspal Singh, said, “No bills were delivered for five months. We approached the electricity office to verify the issue and were told to take our bills from the office and pay them with a 9% fine. Most villagers have already deposited the bills along with the fine.”

Another resident from the same village, Preet Singh, said, “This is something uncalled for. We want the power department to refund the fine amount or adjust it in our next bill. We have failed to understand the functioning of the department.”
