As many as 2,660 vehicles were checked of which 526 were challaned. The STA collected Rs 10.20 lakh as compounding fee. More checking will be done in the coming days. STA secretary Satish Kumar Jain urged the motorists to carry all the required documents - registration certificate (RC), insurance, driving licence, pollution control certificate and permit.

Schools and school bus operators were also advised to engage only those drivers who have experience of minimum five years of driving heavy vehicle.

They have been advised to follow the administration's instructions based on the guidelines of the Supreme Court. A drive for checking driving schools and pollution checking centres has been started to ensure good quality of driving and to make the city smoke free.
