A 61-year-old retired Indian Air Force official committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence in Sector 33 on Wednesday.

A 61-year-old retired Indian Air Force official committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence in Sector 33 on Wednesday.

A suicide note has been recovered by police from his possession, in which the deceased has blamed the nephew-in-law and a resident of Sector 33 for his death.

Police said the matter came to light on Thursday after family of the deceased, Durlabh Singh Lamba, informed police about the incident that he was found dead on Wednesday.

Police said his family members claimed the deceased had gone out to deposit the school fees of his grandchildren and for some household works. When he returned, he asked for a glass of water from his domestic help and went upstairs. Later when his wife, who was not at home, came back and went to his room, he was found in unconscious, and was later taken to Fortis Hospital, SAS Nagar, where doctors declared him brought dead.


His wife told about the incident to her relatives and allegedly kept the body in a fridge for a day, and told police about the incident on Thursday.

The deceased stated Kuljeet Singh had also threatened to kill him over the issue. Recently in April, a Wing Commander of Sector 33 also threatened him over the issue, he stated in the letter.

Meanwhile, Baljit Singh, station house office, Sector 34 police station, said they were verifying the deceased's writing and were also recording the statements of the persons whose names have been mentioned in the note.

Assistant superintendent of police (ASP), east, Navdeep Singh Brar said the Will mentioned in the suicide note was not the Will of the deceased's property, while the alleged accused Kuljeet Singh has been a beneficiary of the property. "So we will have to first verify his writing,"said the ASP.
Till filing of the report, police were still probing into the case and were in a process of registering an FIR.
