Continuing its drive to curb traffic violations, the state transport authority (STA) challaned 774 vehicles in November and realised a fine of Rs 10.88 lakh.In all 2,200 vehicles were checked.
STA secretary Satish Kumar Jain has advised motorists to carry their complete documents, including registration certificate, insurance, driving licence and pollution under control certificate, and ensure not to overload their vehicles to avoid inconvenience. Auto-rickshaw and taxi operators have also been advised to install and keep the fare meter in working condition to avoid penalty under the Motor Vehicles Act.
He added that a drive had been started to check driving school vehicles and pollution check centres to ensure good quality of driving and make City Beautiful smoke-free. “It has been seen that auto-rickshaws are putting at stake the safety of schoolchildren for minor financial gains. Sometimes children are dropped across the road near the school subjecting the children to danger.

{{/usCountry}}STA will also start a special drive against auto-rickshaws that do not have valid documents and that have completed their life span of 15 years.
