9 held on charge of preparing fake certificates

Special Investigation Team of local police has arrested nine persons suspected to be members of a gang involved in issuing fake documents and functioning in the tri-city.

The SIT functioning under the supervision of UT SSP Naunihal Singh came across the gang which allegedly used to create false identities of persons by preparing fake certificates of birth, marriage, educational qualifications and other documents.

A case has been registered against four companies for indulging in the malpractice.

The accused had issued at least 130 fake certificates of Panjab University to applicants. The certificates were given to applicants from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal.
